Warning! My path went off trail about half a mile in.I was following the alltrails GPS loop and it is not accurate so if you follow my path you can get through but it will be sketchy at best I would rate this at very difficult. This is a route I would definitely take a buddy with not a solo trip. Got some great insight for the fellows doing the study on the mountain lions in the area...The trail I went to was NOT city of rocks but an offshoot with no path.
This is a great area to get away from people and go off-trail. My sister and I followed an old hiker's guide and went through one gorgeous little canyon. Lots of great views of hoodoos and rock formations on all sides, some beautiful wildflowers and a tiny little creek. Off-trail is a little rough, but by no means strenuous. Good for some practice if you've never tried it before. We did spot ticks on our clothes, so make sure you check yourselves afterward.
