Very nice trail, gradual incline. Shaded 80% of the time. Alot of wild flowers. Very enjoyable.

This is a great hike if you are comfortable off trail and if you don't mind a lot of up and down as you follow the main ridge line over numerous minor peaks. It is best to hike this as early in the year as road conditions allow access, because the flowers start blooming in April and are nearly done by the end of June. There are a couple of spots where it would be easy to get off on the wrong ridge, which would drop you into Rockland Valley, far from your car. The first one is at 42.484288°, -112.706850°, where you will need to take the less-obvious ridge to the right (northeast) instead of the more obvious ridges to the left. The second one won't be an issue as you head north, but as you come back, when you get to 42.552106°, -112.704636°, be sure to take the ridge to the left (southeast), rather than the more obvious route on the right. If you like solitude, this is a great choice: except during general deer hunting season, you will probably have the whole mountain range to yourself.
