Really enjoyed it! Good variety, nice views even though weather was poor. Well marked and maintained.

It was recommended to me to start the loop at the Fox Creek Trailhead (better parking options - it’s about a mile south of the Chocolate trailhead) and go in a counterclockwise direction. I only complete about 1/3 of the way around and returned the same way. I’m a bit out of shape due to a knee injury earlier in the summer, so this was my first hike in a couple of months. I say that because it was very manageable for me. I stopped about 3/4 of a mile before the highest elevation, so take that into consideration. The aspens were gorgeous, and although the fall colors are not yet here and the summer wildflower colors are gone, the shades of green and yellow were wonderful. Definitely a great hike and I hope to be back.

Great loop trail - well maintained and clearly marked. Very limited parking. More at the Fox Creek trailhead and can access loop from there. My recommendation is to go counterclockwise so you have bulk of elevation gain early in hike and in the shade. While there are some up and downs later in trail, you will have sun at your back and will finish walking along the creek which is refreshing. Trail is easy for anyone in decent shape. Anyone out of shape or with bad knees will find it a bit more challenging. No need for poles. Beautiful views at several points. About 1/2 the trail features shade

Really enjoyed this one - we picked up the trail from Fox Creek trailhead and stayed left. Lots of shady patches as we climbed. The views from the top of Chocolate Gulch were gorgeous! The decent was gradual and beautiful- lots of shade & wildflowers. It took us 2hrs, lots of little breaks for pics & water. highly recommend!!

We do this loop today and it took about two hours. It’s a wonderful trail with lots of tree shade and great views. For sure a fun one to do.

nice easy stroll!! definitely agree with previous comment that said the only reason this trail is rated moderate is because of length. the trailhead is in a neighborhood with limited parking though so just be cautious of that!

Beautiful flowers! We loved the ponderosas, the rocks, the creek. Great mix of scenery. All rated moderate because it’s a 5 miler. Elevations are very manageable and evenly placed.

Beautiful and not too challenging. Last part of hike is right along the river

This is a nice easy hike. Not sure it is even moderate. A lot people and dogs on the trail. If you are looking for solitude this isn’t your hike. It is pretty!

This was a nice trail. Views alone/terrain would have been 5 stars. But there were a lot of mountain bikers. And dogs. We saw about a dozen dogs, ALL of whom were off leash. Only one owner bothered to leash, or even call her dog as we approached with our own (leashed) dog. Also, multiple people were leaving bags of dog poop on the trail.

This is such a lovely moderate run or hike. You can go either direction for scenery, but if you don’t like short sharp slippery climbs up, better to go counterclockwise. Lovely sections along the river, lots of sections through the shady woods and up to the rocky, red dirt outlook with great views across to Eagle creek and of the north end of the valley. Best early am (no later than 10) in summer to beat the crowds and the heat. Be sure to Park at Fox Creek trailhead, not chocolate gulch (which is a residential neighborhood and therefore only has a couple of parking spots available)

Great moderate trail with a variety of scenery including mountain vistas and hiking along the river. Do it counter clockwise from the trailhead.

Incredible views along this hike. Well worth the trip! The mosquitos were a little too friendly though.

This hike should be rated as easy- not much incline. Was absolutely beautiful especially the part along the river. The trailhead is at the end of a residential neighbourhood

Great almost 360 views at a rocky summit. Take some time there! Good trail. Mid October we had mud and snow. Beautiful all the way!
