Balanced Rock Park is a 0.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Castleford, Idaho that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, camping, nature trips, and fishing. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Idaho State Parks charge a day-use fee per vehicle. Visitors can also purchase an annual pass, for Idaho residents and for out-of-state visitors. The annual pass grants access to all state parks in Idaho. Quick 1 mile out and back trail along the river. Be sure to check out the actual Balanced Rock just up the road from the park. Nice views. Something to see if you are in the area. Accessibility: There do not appear to be any designated accessible spaces within 1 mile of the north end of the trail. There is a gravel lot at the north end of the trail. The trail surface is gravel or natural (dirt/rock) and typically ranges from 1 to over 6 feet wide. The most accessible portion of the trail is the overlook at the beginning of the trail avoiding the steep, narrow, and uneven portions. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less) except for steep to very steep (over 8%) uphill and downhill sections at about 0.05 through 0.15 and at 0.4 miles when going southbound. Trail goers/hikers using wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers may need assistance in the steeper sections or to avoid them for safety. All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the unpaved and uneven surface type. There are picnic tables at the parking lot for resting.
Lovely, cool, breezy walk along the creek. I received a nice surprise when I noticed a delicate waterfall on the opposite side of the creek.
Easy to hike by the river. My dog Oliver jumped into the water because it is so hot. But don’t be fool the popular balanced rock is not in the trail its like maybe a mile from the original park.
