Baker Lake Trail is a 3.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Ketchum, Idaho that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from July until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Quite a few trees down, but a beautiful fall hike that's close to Ketchum!
This hike was probably much more picturesque prior to the large fire. It now has a very eerie feel. However, the lake a nice destination. Pretty cool & windy this time of year.
This was an awesome hike. Completed it 10/15/2020. Grade wise, definitely easy. But for someone with sea level lungs, it was a bit of a challenge, huffing and puffing my way to the top. Totally worth it. Blue bird sky with a few streaky clouds, perfect fall weather (in the 30s but stripped off my jacket real quick on the trail up). Wind picked up at the top. I did the loop around the lake, scrambling at times over the rock fall on the north side of the lake. Make sure to watch your footing. A fair number of trees were down over the trail, but easy enough to get over.
Great easy incline with a beautiful lake at the end. Very relaxing hike
Beautiful trail through burned forest — lots of mountain flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, bees, hummingbirds, birds and chipmunks. Saw a deer on the dirt road back to the 75. Loved the long drive up the dirt road to the trailhead where you cross a pretty stream to start the hike. Very well maintained trail up to a beautiful lake with loads of trout and a grill for meals. Bring your rod and a tube to wade out to the middle for fishing — only 2 trophy trout at 20in are allowed for keeping but it’s best to release em. The hike up was quite a bit harder for me than the “easy” rating due to altitude. We were slow but happy the whole way there. We saw a couple kids that had done it so we recommend it for families, just take your time. We saw the half moon peaking through fluffy white clouds over a front-lit, burned north face. Hope to backcountry ski that sometime! DOG APPROVED
One of my favorite trails. Did it years ago before the fire. Very surreal in the burnt trees
I went on this trail about two weeks ago and it had just snowed. It was like a hidden winter wonderland! It was so beautiful! Sad to see all the burnt trees but they too had a beauty about them. I really enjoyed this hike! Def not too hard. We passed several families with children on the trail.
Great trail. Incredible wildflowers and views. You can fish at the lake up top. We saw some big trout. The drive in is a dirt road with some rocks but not terrible at all. The trail was probably the busiest I experienced during my week in the area around Sun Valley. But, it’s worth hiking it. Excellent for dogs off leash too.
Had a great hike. Despite up to six inches of snow in places, the trail was easy to follow and the gradient was flat enough that it wasn’t slippery. We bundled up for the cold, and even sneakers were ok, but boots might have been better. Despite almost 1000’ of vertical, the gradient made it easy even for us 74 year old hikers...
This trail is good for anyone. The incline is not steep and consistent until the lake. The setting is quite different than other hikes. It's like walking through a graveyard of trees. The path is very good and the parking area has a bathroom. It took us about 1 hour to reach Baker Lake, heading out just before 10am. We didn't see a soul until our way back down but crossed paths with a couple deer. The lake is so calm you can see the fish pop up and eat insects. One thing to note is that the drive is a good 40 minutes on a dirt road once you turn off 75. We had zero cell signal.
