Pu'u Olai (Little) Beach Trail is a 0.6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Kihei, Hawaii that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
Directions from Kihei: Follow the Piilani Highway south to Wailea Ike Drive. At the Wailea Shopping Center turn left on to Wailea Alanui Drive and follow it to Makena Road. There are two parking areas for this beach the first is approximately one mile past the Maui Prince Hotel.
Have been here twice; both times accessed via Makena (Big Beach); the coolest part is hiking up and over the volcanic separator between Makena and Little Beach. The locals are protective of their turf, so no gawking and respect their privacy. Little Beach frames the northwest side of Maui nicely, makes for some beautiful shots. A hangout for free spirits.
Nudey beach. So it's interesting. Right next to my favorite beach anywhere. There use to be a drum circle there on Sunday nights at sunset with a bunch of fun people. Fire dancers and all. If you go be open minded and expect to see some old naked guys and if your lucky some nude beauties.
This tiny hike is best reached by parking at Big Beach, Makena, then walking to Big Beach. Once you get there, to north is a small lava rock hill you'll have to scramble over to make it to Little Beach. Please keep in mind that it is clothing optional and respect the locals. Sunday nights you can usually find hippies and the like hosting a drum circle. To get the best experience - take off your clothes and enjoy the vibe!
