Puu Maelieli Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Kaneohe, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
What a nice hike. Not too hard at all. This would be a good one for younger kids and dogs on leash. There are no scary ridges to slip and fall down. It is a nice steady incline for sure so you don't want to do it when it's raining at all. We did it a day after rain and it was pretty dry already. The view up top is beautiful and the pillboxes are covered with bright art inside. We parked in the very back of the theater parking lot behind the McDonalds. The trail is a white "no trespassing" sign and yellow marker on the side of the highway.
Great views of K-Bay on this trail. Short but feels like a good work out because of the elevation changes. My dog approves. He likes getting muddy. We park on the street by the townhouses and walk down, follow the guard rail across from Temple to the beginning.
A great short hike that has some of the best views of K-Bay around. Like everyone says, it can be crazy muddy and slippery if it has rained, but otherwise its not too bad. Check out my full blog post about this hike:
We had a wonderful time on this trail. It's been very dry lately and I can't imagine trying to do this trail in wet or muddy conditions, but dry it was delightful. The view at the end is magnificent...perhaps my new favorite Lookout on the island!
There are a couple really steep parts, but the ropes were very helpful!
Great trail for running. Very well maintained with spectacular views.
Good for walkers and runners
Great hike! Not too long and the terrain changes and the beautiful views on the way make for a great experience.
