Great views, go early. Extremely hot and zero shade

Pretty windy up at the top, but the view was wonderful!

Great trail. Very rocky terrain. The views are top notch!

I did this hike solo in January and it was awesome. Start early and bring lots of water. I would say the rating is mostly just because of the sun exposure. The hike itself wasn't bad. My tracker showed this as 5 miles round trip. The views are gorgeous and I saw tons of whales. Make sure you park as close to the road as possible as cars get broken into here all the time. There is glass everywhere.

Great moderate hike - with nice ocean views. Would have loved a summit out of this hike though. 2:00 hours. Good afternoon hike.

Great hike! wear good shoes for hiking, bring lots of water.

great hike. car got brocken in (glass brocken). better park elsewhere. go very very early, gets extremely hot. take lots of water.

This is an awesome trail. Hard rating stands just based on sun and wind exposure. Didn’t bring enough waster which could’ve been bad if it were July and not December. Also of note by both my phone and Apple watches count this trail is pretty much five miles start to finish and not four. I️ will definitely do this one again with a lot more water!

The reviews here seem like they’re trying to scare you about the heat... I did this in full sun from 9AM-noon and it was fantastic. It was breezy enough to keep the temp perfect. This trail isn’t terribly hard, but it was a nice challenge and the views are absolutely spectacular!! I would do this again in a heartbeat!

Very nice, straightforward hike going up and over the ridge of the island. Trail is very exposed so start in the morning. I took it up and over the ridge and hitchhiked back to the first trail head.

This hike was hard (I don't hike much) but it was not impossible. The views were absolutely beautiful. Very steep incline, but if you go at your own pace, and stop when you need to, it isn't too bad. We got to the windmills and then turned around. Make sure you have good shoes on!
Overall, great hike, can't beat the views and how peaceful it was.

Much tougher on the way down than up - very rocky and unless you are sure footed and have strong knees it's a tough go down and very difficult to get any kind of pace to go down - going up you can pull a steady pace, but very difficult to try to run

very fun. steep rocks at times mixes it up which is great. Great view of coast and windmills. went up and back in 2 hours at a quick pace and hiked some of the other Pali trail.

Amazing althought it is really hot, bring at least 2 liters of water

This trail is amazing! We're slow hikers and it took us 6 hours to get the the 11 mile marker (the windmills) and back down. It's so beautiful and worth it.

We came from the Harbor side. Quite a climb. Bring water, a snack, and the sun screen. Don't forget to turn around and take a look on the way up. Quite beautiful from Kahului, to Big Beach.

Awesome trail with beautiful views. If you look to your right at the base of the hill on the kihei side before you begin climbing up the hill you will see a trail that leads to the right through a gate and leads you 6 miles through rainforest to the most incredible view you have ever seen. If you do take this trail be aware that it is incredibly steep and storms can move in fast.

great trail! went from ukamahame side. the trail was rugged and hot due to lack of wind. on the way down on the maalea side, there was little relief from the sun, but had a nice breeze. unfortunately my sole of my shoe came off at the 1.8 mile marker, so just had the upper to protect my foot, but finished without even a blister or cut on my foot.

Bring LOTS of water and good shoes.

Small gravel lot beside the main road, pull in and if you have a jeep or 4-wheel drive you can proceed through the cattle gate up to the trailhead parking.

The trail is very clearly worn / marked; it is lava rock, steep and challenging. Trail or hiking shoes definitely recommended as tennis shoes may leave you with sore feet due to the rocky nature of the trail. By buddy and I went through a Combat Bar and 3 liters of water, Gatorade each and we only did the 5 mile version (to wind turbines and back), not the full 10 miles. It's a simple out/back trail to do the full 10 or you can do whole trail one direction and have a 2nd car pre-parked at either lot to return to your start (5 miles).

Very enjoyable trail and terrific views, just be ready for the rocks and SUN (no shade).

We only did a bit more than half and we started at the "end" side. It's steep in places and very rocky but extremely satisfying as a hike. We hiked to the wind mills at the top and turned back (to our car). Be sure to bring an emergency poncho or rain coat as we got caught in a HUGE downpour on the way down. Needless to say, this isn't a tourist flip flop hike, wear boots or hiking shoes.

fantastic trail. we went midday and with sufficient water it is totally fine even without much shade along the way. very well marked. just challenging enough. spectacular views. straightforward footing.

Beautiful views of the ocean the entire way up. Not an easy hike, but but a great half day activity and worth the views! If you don't do the entire hike, make sure you at least go to the 2.0 mile marker for the best view of the gulch.

I did this hike one morning when I was off from work. Recommend starting at around 7 in the am (earlier the better). Can get very hot when the sun is out. Start on the Maalea side. Awesome views all along the trial. I suggest bringing plenty of water and sunscreen. The turbines at the top are huge. I thoroughly enjoyed this hike.

Amazing views, great uphill (ankle breaker descent), and perfect on a cloudy, non windy day. Bring water! The wind turbines are worth a look.

We hiked from the Maalaea side to the wind turbines and back after starting at the highway, not the parking lot. The terrain is incredibly rugged and very steep on this side of the ridge; we had to stop several times to catch our breath. What's more, the wind was intense, bordering on brutal at times as we got closer to the top. There is no real cover out here, so be mindful of your sun exposure, as well as the sand in the wind.

Once you pass the first mile or so, the trail becomes much more manageable as you approach the turbines. At the top of the ridge, the views are great! Unfortunately, the wind was easily blowing 60+ mph the day we were there which made enjoying the view rather difficult.

The way down is easy as cake until you get to the insanely rocky section, which can be very hard on your feet and ankles as you try to find your footing on the rough rocks. This hike will make even an experienced hiker sore. All in all, I liked it, but it was a little tougher than I expected.

Excellent trail, yes it is hard, just rest when needed, worth the hike up. You'll think you're close to the top but then there's another hill around the bend. Keep going! Great views and the trip down is so much faster. Just watch out for loose stones.

When arriving, we notice very large amounts of auto glass in the secluded parking area. At first we thought maybe someone wrecked but there were too many areas to say it wasn't from someone breaking into vehicles. We decided not to risk leaving our vehicle there and did not hike the trail.

Difficult trail - great exercise and views when you stop to look around, however the trail is precarious enough that most of our time hiking was spent looking at our feet :(
