Parking is at the Moanalua Valley Park (open from 7am - 7pm) at the end of Ala Aolani Street. Follow the Kamananui Valley Trail for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn left at the Kulana'ahane Trail Head sign and cross a stream bed. Keep going straight; if you make a right turn after crossing the stream, you will end up on the Moanalua Middle (Keana'akamano) Ridge Trail. You will make approximately 23 stream crossings. You will then come to an "End of Maintained Trail" sign. Go past the sign and make you way up the ridge to the saddle summit. As you climb will be able to see the waterfall to the right of the radar dish at the top of the Stairway to Heaven.

This is Kulana’ahane State trail. It ends at a saddle point overlooking H-3. It does not end at the Stairway To Heaven although you can see the structure from here on a clear day. Refer to map.

Great hike with a beautiful view at the top. But be ready for lots of technical footwork, as the stream crossings, rocks, roots, and steepness near the end all keep the pace a little slower. Lovely to see both the valley on one side of the summit pass and the ocean in the other.

Incredible that this overwhelming beauty is so close to Honolulu. Be ready to lose your shoe in a steaming pile of primordial ooze then rinse off in a stream crossing 200ft later, and repeat. I ran out of water at the summit, so, don’t be like me. This is not a hike for cotton socks. Bring swim attire. In my case light polyester socks under meshy running shoes breathed and dried well enough.

Made our way up the trail. Very easy to follow; the description on the app was very helpful. we were looking forward to seeing the waterfall, however there was no water in it! We climbed up on November 1st. This is a nice long hike, I went with first timers and they had blisters on their feet and a few cuts and bruises. Other than that the hike was a good workout.

Got off work early today so made my way to get to the H3 Summit Saddle that a friend had told me about. Beautiful hike and not too strenuous. Hike took just over 5 hours. WIll cross over the stream numerous times...dont be scared to get your feet wet! Amazing view at the top of H3 and the top of the Stairway to Heaven
