We enjoyed this hike. We went on a Monday afternoon after a few days of rain and wind. We were able to find a parking spot at the park by the elementary (bathrooms at the park we’re not clean). The trail was wet and muddy from the beginning and continued to be until after the picnic table when you enter the final stretch. This final approach was dry from all the island pine needles covering the ground and path. There was only one major fork in the trail and we took the left fork that was marked with ropes. The pillbox was awesome with a great view and awesome graffiti. The path continues on to become another trail, so we returned on the same route and the descent was even more tricky then the ascent. We came out with muddy hands and shoes and legs. Definitely glad we had hiking boots on and water with us.
