Beautiful views at the top. With the recent rains be prepared for the clay to be slippery.

This a hard trail under best circumstances. It was raining and low visibility so I can't say much about the views, but I'm sure they would have been great. The trail was very slick and I ended up turning around 500ft from the trail top. The trail was too steep and slick and no ropes were available at the end. Near the end of the trail there were steep drop-offs on either side so focus on footing and hand holds to sturdy vegetation was a must. This would be a wonderful hike during clean and relatively dry weather. The trail had turned into a stream (many gal/sec) by the time I had headed down. At least the rain was not cold.

muddy at the bottom, slick on some parts going up, steep but so worth it! Definitely grab a stick there is usually a pile of them right by the trailhead.

Love the trail. Make an immediate left after the Hanalei bridge and about a mile up the road to the left is the parking lot. There's a small bridge that will put you at the trail head across the street . It's about 2 miles almost straight up. You will climb, climb and climb. Since it's the north shore, plan on it raining. It did rain when we hiked this trail. Bring protective gear to keep your electronics dry. It's a muddy trail, birds chirping, smell of rotten wood and the spectacular views of Hanalei is incredible. You will know you're at the 'official' end of the trail when you see the marker and a bunch of tea leaves. We kept going after the official end for about another 1/8 of a mile and it was getting dangerous. There were points where we were walking and if we looked left or right, it was straight down! We decided to turn around. I would like to continue beyond where we turned around one day. Like any trail I've hiked on Kauai, it's never disappointing.
