The majority of this trail, the part the goes across the Halema‘uma‘u Crater, as well as most of the Halema‘uma‘u Trail and the west half of the Crater Rim Trail, were closed when I visited last week due to high levels of sulfur in the air from the volcano. It seems like they've been closed for a while, because the off-limits area was marked on permanent park signage and brochures.
