Loop hike takes you to two large waterfalls in a lush rain forest near Hilo. Self-guided walk through tropical vegetation to scenic vista points overlooking the cascading Kahuna Falls and the free-falling 'Akaka Falls, which plunges 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. The 0.4-mile loop footpath is a good family walk. Trailhead is located just off the parking lot. The paved route offers stunning viewpoints of the two waterfalls. To view Akaka Falls only, take the path to the left (south) from the first junction. The waterfall view is just a short walk down the path.

Enjoyable loop. Lots to see, so nobody complained about the climb coming out.

Really nicely maintained trail with paved paths through lush and beautiful rainforest. It was a short trail, but I think it's a must-do if you're visiting Hawaii. You can only see the falls from a distance though, so don't expect to get too close... You won't get wet.

5/27/2018-This was a nice place to visit and easy to walk through. It was overcast and rained on us towards the end but it was awesome. Parking in the lot is $5.00 and admission is waived for Hawai’i residents with driver’s license.

This is a quick and easy loop on a paved trail. Once you hit the junction you can either go left or right, doesn’t matter. Left is directly to the falls. The falls are monstrous!

Super easy paved walk way to both waterfalls

Beautiful falls! Only four stars because the entire trail is paved and we don't count those as "real" trails. :) Much of the trail is up and down on stairs but plenty of level paths in between to catch your breath. Not much parking. $1 per person entry fee if you park on the road and not their parking lot.

Short paved path with nice views of the waterfall and flora. Sometimes pretty crowded with tourists, some stairs, but nothing challenging. Definitely worth seeing if you are on the Hilo side of the island.

Beautiful walk and falls (Akaka & Kahuna). There is a $5 State Park fee for the carpark, however the trail is so well maintained and beautiful that it is totally worth it. The scenery is absotutely beautiful and it is an easy walk.
