A hiking trail in the North Georgia Mountains. The beginning portion is along the Appalachian Trail. This trail begins with a small section of the Appalachian Trail that ascends Wildcat Mountain from Hogpen Gap. From there the trail forks to the left from the AT and descends down Wildcat Mountain. There are great views from the top of Wildcat Mountain as well as a couple of campsites.

Great hike as always. Keeps me coming back year after year. Good views on the way in and nice spots to camp along the trail before you get to the main camp site as well.

Beautiful views and a great section of the AT for relatively easier hike on the trail. Found some trash at the shelter, which we picked up and packed out with us, but hoping that is not a common occurrence.

Nice trail. Hard enough for the adults but not too hard for kids. My 7 year old said it was his favorite so far.

Beautiful narrow trail, a spur off the AT leading to Whitley Shelter. A little overgrown, but well worth the hike. After leaving the AT we didn’t see another soul other than two campers at the shelter. Nice waterhole about .3 mile behind the shelter.

was a really beautiful Trail... Especially after you turn left to get off the Appalachian Trail it really turned into a real tight Rhododendron and mountain laurel filled area... I was expecting mostly heavy wooded areas... But there's lots of small overlooks just look for the small trails to the right as working your way to the top of Wildcat Mountain... You start to descend pretty steep getting closer to the actual Whitley shelter... But the shelter was definitely worth it and pretty cool

awesome Trail.... I would suggest turning right at the first Fork and just go about quarter of a mile and a nice little Summit off of Raven's cliff on the left... keep going another couple miles to see cow Rock Summit which is awesome!!

Good hike. We went just after it rained so it was foggy with limited visibility. Started at hogpen to Tesnatee back up to whitly gap shelter back to Hogpen. About 5miles and easy to moderate hike.

Great day hike or one-nighter. It's not a difficult trail, except for a few hundred yards of switchback at either end of the trail. I saw no-one on the Thursday I walked in, surprising given the perfect weather and fall colors. The next day was a different story, passing probably a dozen people on my way out. Good hammock hang-ups on the bald of Wildcat Mountain. There is a nice side trail just before you get to it, where you end up above a shear rock wall with a beautiful view. I took a nap there under a scrub pine, waking up to the view I uploaded. The Whitly shelter is great, with bear-proof cables on a pulley system to tie up the food, a strong spring a few hundred yards away, and an enclosed privy.

It is a short hike from Hogpen Gap to the top of Wildcat Mountain. There are plenty of great views and a couple of campsites where you can have a picnic. From there the trail descends down the south side of Wildcat Mountain.
