This is a fun and challenging trail. There are nice views of Atlanta from the summit of Big Kennesaw.

From The Burnt Hickory parking lot to The Visitor Center over Pigeon Hill, over little Kennesaw Mountain and over big Kennesaw Mountain I stopped at the visitor center. for a break at 3 miles. Felt sorrow for the Indians who were kicked out. in the 1830s when this area got divided up by. white settlers. The museum and Gift Shop have invaluable information and touching keepsakes. Hiked back up big Kennesaw Mountain to little Kennesaw Mountain through the boulders on pigeon hill and back at 6 miles. Rain and no phone during The Last Mile proved to me that I could go off the grid for a little while and survive. May your journey here be as miraculous.

Pigeon Hill side is a great hike. Beautiful and a little challenging at times. Once over the top of Kennesaw, the way down and back are way too heavily trafficked by large groups and families. If you’re looking for a great walk in the woods, stay in the Burnt Hickory/Pigeon Hill side of Kennesaw. Leave the battlefield for field trips.

A beautiful trail, a little rugged in places, but with plenty of cover from the hot Georgia sun. Gorgeous views.

We started from the Pigeon Hill Parking lot and only went to the summit, then turned around and came back (map estimated about 4 miles total). It was definitely more challenging than I was expecting, but a very enjoyable trail. Lots of rocks and boulders, with plenty of elevation changes. The trail was mostly shaded, which was really nice. The views at the top are incredible!

Variety of fun on this trail! My only complaints are: 1) the amount of traffic in beginning (starting from Visitor Center side); and 2) it was slightly confusing as to which way the trail led at the top of the mountain. We found out way with the help of another hiker. Other than that, this trail was packed with elevation climbs, beautiful views of the distant city, and awesome rock formations. As a hiking rookie, I would call this is a moderate/difficult hike. However, we brought our dog and he led the way the whole time! Will definitely visit this trail again.
