We started at the Visitor's Center and went right on Wild Turkey Trail. The trail takes you deep in the woods through a carpet of wild ferns and and along a beautiful little stream for the 1st stretch. Just enough elevation changes to get you're heart rate up but nothing too strenuous. We eventually came to a 2nd parking lot where other trails converge. We walked across the street and took the Flat Rock Loop trail which was pretty cool and a completely different terrain. Beautiful little purple and yellow wildflowers were everywhere! After that we took the Brown Thrasher trail back. We really enjoyed the hike and saw a total of only 3 other people while we were there so it definitely felt very secluded!

The park refers to this trail as the "Wild Turkey Trail." We started at trailhead #1, did the loop and the out and back as well - where several trails come together - for a total of 4.8 miles. Great weather, plenty of parking, and they were taking the $5.00 daily fee which is placed in an envelope and put through the slot of the collection box. No wildlife that we saw, but we enjoyed the small stream we walked along briefly and crossed at one spot. Only saw one family of 3 the entire time and that was at the very end, so great hike for the COVID-19 pandemic. Relatively flat with some ups and downs along the way, which we appreciate from a cardio perspective. Highly recommend this trail for all ages.

Gorgeous spring day for a much needed hike! On this particular day we're in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic, so an afternoon outside in the sunshine was so nice! This trail is blue blazed and well maintained. I appreciate the mile markers; they keep me motivated! We also hiked the adjoining lookout tower trail and enjoyed a snack by the river. Get out there and hike this trail!

Good trail. Goal was 6 so did a couple of loop backs to my friends. Good trail. Lots of roots and loose rocks to watch out for but I definitely recommend running it.

Hiking

Truly excellent trail for a beginner level hiker. Easy grade, VERY well marked. Even at the end of July there’s still water in the creek (which the dogs loved). Remember to bring water for the dogs, if you bring them, if you’re thirsty they are too. We did not see any other hikers along the way, very peaceful. I don’t recommend tennis shoes, there are some slick spots. We will definitely be back to hike entire trail; I’ll start earlier in the day.

Hiking

If you are an avid hiker this trail is quite simple. Lots of ups and downs along hills. Nothing spectacular to see other than the fern filled forest towards the beginning of the trail. CHECK FOR TICKS!!!!!!

Hiking

Easy trails, well maintained, with clean bathrooms at the park store. Great for small children. We saw armadillos, and a glimpse of a bald eagle at the SW edge of the park along the river. Several trails along the river were CLOSED, so slight bummer (Nov 2016). Option for camping overnight, but this was just a day trip for us, followed by antiquing in Newnan.

It was a nice trail..we went on behind the office/gift shop. It was a nice long hike but not very challenging. It's close to home so I might do it again just out of convenience. Definitely well maintained.

Camping

I thought it was a nice hike pretty easy, I stayed in the backcountry camping, which was a pretty ok camping area, access to the river so kayaking to the camp is doable. The hike is pretty easy for the most part, some of the trail is unmarked so pay attention, for 2/3rds of the hike I was the only one on the trail both there and back. It rained the evening I camped and hiking out found the trails pretty slippery, some of the hills especially.

First to Review

Pretty easy trail but a very nice walk and great scenery. Some steep moments as your go up and down to cross creeks, so if it is muddy be prepared to slide a bit. New and remote so I did not see another hiker all day.
