This is the full north-bound route of the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Katahdin in Maine. Most thru hikers start their trips at Springer Mountain sometime between late February and mid April. Of the 25% of who finish the thru-hike, most reach Katahdin in Maine between August and early October. Baxter Park in Maine closes for the season on October 15th so plan to hike Katahdin by that date at the very latest. Come physically prepared but if you aren't a long distance hiker no worries just pace yourself until your legs have adapted. Come mentally tough also because the AT will wear you down. Hands down, my 2017 thru-hike has made contributions to my life and those who hear the story that are totally unexpected. Be prepared to be awed and inspired.

My husband and I they hiked in 2017. Hands down, the best decision of our lives! We can't imagine what life would look like without having gone, and coming home with lessons, memories, experiences, and FRIENDS that will last a lifetime.

That was a lifetime experience that took six months of backpacking (over several years) and three large section (plus one small) hikes to complete. It would be wonderful to do it again. I started this trail in Georgia at age 22 and finished in Maine at age 49. The memories will last the rest of my life.

Incredible experience. Started at Springer 2/18/2017, finished at Katahdin 7/22/2017. First long distance backpacking trek and I loved it. You never know what the day will bring. Incredible sights, awesome wildlife, plenty of time to think/reflect and meet tons of cool people along the way. What are you waiting for? Grab a pack and hit the trail!
