We enjoyed this short hike very much. Carter's lake is beautiful. Make sure to go to the vistors center first. Enjoy the view. then hike to the powerline and see the other side. Park in the North Overlook parking and walk across the street to the trail head. Then walk down and cross the other street to continue. You do not need to go thru the gate and pay to do this hike. Make sure to go on both sides of the pond. It is right at water level and hundreds of frogs are jumping.

We just had to get the cache at the end of the trail! Very nice well maintained trail. Early spring wildflowers and migrating birds are a bonus. Do be aware that the gate closes at 5:00. We didn't know and got locked in. There was a notice on the windshield with a phone number. Very pleasant gentleman came and rescued us promptly!

Great views! Not crowded and very peaceful. But quite the incline!

It was raining when we went and it made it an even better hike. The leaves are beautiful. Overlook was foggy but still great.
The gate closes at 5:00 pm so allow yourself enough time to hike or park in front of gate.
Great hike!
