This is one of the most popular hikes in the Atlanta area. The hike is good for all ages. There is ample parking at the base of Stone Mountain. The hike is entirely on smooth granite rock. Although there is a route defined, the "trail" can be very wide, with stands of trees dotting the rock face. There is also a gondola that takes visitors to the top for a small fee.

Stone Mountain is exactly that. A mountain (large hill really) made entirely of stone

Nice hike. Fully rocky. During rains it’s slippery. Safe with good hiking shoes. Lots of parking space. Pets not allowed, however saw few people with their pets. Amazing views.

2.2 mile hike. Challenging hike. Not for beginners, but you can do it... very steep all the way up and down. Be careful while hiking down. It’s slippery. Get good hiking shoes. The views are amazing .

Today was a beautiful day to hike to the top of Stone Mountain. Lots of people on the trail with the same plan as us. Great views all around. Happy New year!

I think this is one of those trails you have to do if you’re in Atlanta. The hike up is actually a bit disappointing for me. Very well worn Trail, with no vegetation,. Not a lot of scenery on the way up. The views from the top are spectacular. I did this in mid December, with the goal of watching the sunset from the Peak. Even with an outside temperature of about 40°, the hike up was very comfortable until the last quarter-mile when you are on the exposed face of the mountain. The winds were really swirling up there. But manageable if you dress appropriately

Sucks coming down when it's wet! Completely slippery.

Very easy to follow the markings! We decided to park at the walk up trail lot, hike around the stone mountain loop until we hit the gondolas, got a one way ticket up then hiked down. Started at 9:40A and ended at 1:20P, but we weren't in a rush and took a lot of pictures and videos.

Mostly rock trail, so very slippery when wet. Mostly moderate trail with one very steep section that I’d rate as difficult. Great views at the top. Good spot to watch the sunrise and sunset.

Steep climb to the top. Beautiful views of the Atlanta skyline. Not a lot of shade, but it was 65 degrees today (late October). There’s a trolley available to ride down for twelve dollars. There’s a gift shop and museum as well. The climb down was quick and painless for me. Thoroughly enjoyed!

It was great if you like a heavily trafficked and short trail. Great for all ages.

You'll find all types of people on this trail from experienced hikers, military training, tactical training, fitness groups, etc. There are a couple of places to rest along the trail at the Midway and end. I would say that having the right pair of shoes wouod be very helpful. Also, this trail is moderate only to those that ate in decent shape. I would not recommend this trail for those who have any type of mobility issues from the waist down as this trail can be hard on the hips, ankles and knees because of the ledges and very steep inclines at certain points. Also, I've seen people on this trail with very small children. I would not recommend that you do this with children under 6 years of age. There are a number of other trails in the park that would be better suited for small children. Also recommend a walking stick or a set of cane poles.

Great hike, even better views. With a couple of exceptions, it is a fairly simple hike. There were two quick ascents atop slippery rocks where one must exercise caution, otherwise, it’s easy. I was able to take my 22 month old, 4 year old, and 6 year old by myself. As others have observed, I wouldn’t do during rain. The rocks are slippery when dry. A question I had before the hike that I was not able to have answered was wether you could bring a stroller. You cannot. Too many rocks.

Overall, this is a great trail with beautiful scenic and city views at the top. There are some slick spots, so wear shoes with plenty of traction. Bring lots of water if you’re going during the summer, as it can get pretty hot.
