this was a fun little trail. so many folks out practicing rock climbing. great entertainment for my 8 year old nephew and his friend. my 70+ year old dad had a great time too. we only went as far as the creek, but it was a great afternoon. loved the view on the drive up the mountain.
It was so much fun to climb rocks, it wasn’t too much elevation and easy for kids.
Trail access: the road to this trail is slightly wider than a one lane, and passing cars can be difficult. Part of the access road is paved and part of it is dirt/gravel. There are pot holes, so drive safely. The trail itself is fine, but it’s really just meant to provide access to the rocks. This really is a rock playscape. I went off trail and scrambled over, around, and through the rocks. It was so much fun! Definitely worth repeating.
Amazing! So many rocks to climb and slot canyons to explore! Perfect for our 7 & 9 year old. Beware: we did find a baby Timber Rattlesnake along the way.
The trail is fine until you get near Rocktown, then a million trails branch out in all directions and the actual trail does not appeared to be marked. I spent a long time just exploring and taking photos of all the cool boulders and mushrooms. I would have been completely lost without AllTrails to help lead me back to my car.
Lots of opportunities to explore with side trails, so you’ll end up doing more than the indicated trail distance. The bridge over the small creek was washed out today, but you can easily hop the creek if you look upstream about twenty or thirty yards. Fun place to stroll and explore. Bring bug spray.
heard about this area and finally made it up. amazing maze of gigantic boulders to wonder around, scramble over or climb around. activities for everyone. will absolutely be back
This map only shows the hike out of Rocktown. I forgot to turn the recorder on! Great hike. It was a bit too hot for bouldering. But we did some anyway. I love Rocktown. The trails are mostly easy, the walk out was kind of rough only because it was so hot. There were only a few people there. They fall is the best time to go when it’s cool outside. It is more crowded then. Don’t forget to bring your land pass. The road getting there is rough.
There is plenty of parking and a nice sign that includes a map. Super cute little trail—you could easily do with dogs (on leash) and kids. I would hesitate to rate it as moderate. The trail is wide and there are plenty of options for exploring on the rocks just off the trail.
Amazing short walk into a pristine collection of huge boulders, cliffs, and squeezes. Easy walk and enjoyable, make sure to give yourself a few hours to explore the many rock formations.
