Roberts Lake Trail is a 1.4 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Ball Ground, Georgia that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This is a nice trail to an old dam and power plant. The trailhead can be hard to find. You can drive/bike like you are following directions to The Wheeler House. Turn into the road right next to it, drop down that single lane road until it turns into a gravel road. 4x4 is best on this road. Keep going until you see the sign. Parking is a small gravel lot.
This trail is very pretty! Google Wheeler House and turn onto Robert’s Lake Rd (stop sign) and follow that road through a few houses and an open construction field until you hit the parking lot. There were a few ‘no trespassing’ signs so I was skeptical, but eventually found it. I’m not sure if it loops around, but I got to the power plant and the river but didn’t see any more markings, and there was a blue tarp shelter like someone was maybe staying there so I turned around. Cool trail for summer time getting in the river, but not much of a scenic hike.
Nice trail, well-marked. Hiked it with toddler and dog and it was fun, but definitely some big hills. Will come back again!
To find this trail the GPS is wrong, you need to go to the Wheeler House in Ball Ground. If you don't know where the Wheeler House is Google it and get the GPS directions to there. The side road next to the Wheeler House leads to the trailhead it becomes a dirt road that my minivan made easily. the trail is clearly marked to the point it is ridiculously easy to follow. This is a great trail to hike with little kids.
I never did find the entrance to the trail. I followed the AllTrails map and it took me to a grass covered single lane road that was unmarked. I followed it until it appeared to be a dead end. There was nothing around except grass that was taller than my SUV. So I backed out and went to the park that was next to this little road thinking that it’s path might bring me to intersect with the trail. It didn’t. Then I went to Roberts Lake Road thinking it might be off of that. It wasn’t. Then I tried pulling it up on Apple Maps to try again. Still couldn’t find it. I just left in disgust.
I had no problem finding the trailhead. Even though the trail is not long like some and it was not hard to walk but for a beginner it was tough. I really enjoyed the peace and quite of the walk with my yorkie. Since I live close to this trail it will definitely be one I do again.
the trail head is hard to find. the directions are wrong on how to get there. you actually need to go like your going to The Wheeler House, turn into the road right next to it, drop e down that single lane road until it turns into a gravel road ( i made it in my Camry but would not recommend, 4x4 always better) and keep going until you see the sign. parking is a small gravel lot.
