Hiking

Great November hike. There were some brambles but some one had done some trail maintenance. FYI part or the trail is also a Mtn Biking trail. We had quite a fright. They came up behind us really fast. But all was well. The trail head is actually a forest service rd. It is a hard hike but the view from Rabun Bald makes it all worth it.

HikingBlowdownGreat!Over grown

We did not bring a machete or wear pants. As such, we are now covered with bleeding love scratches from what we have affectionately named The Bower of The Nymph with the Extra Fun Fingers. For about 2 out of the 5 miles you will be walking through heavily overgrown and very thorny brush and might as well be bushwhacking. Luckily, as you approach the top it resolves into an open path through an absolutely gorgeous old growth rhododendron forest. There are a few points where having your gps is essential to keep you on the correct path.

HikingGreat!Over grown

Hiked in July. Definitely need pants - trail is overgrown in many spots. I wish I had brought a machete. Due to the overgrown sections of trail, I would recommend in winter / early spring. The Sarah Creek recreation area where the hike starts is awesome. It has some great family camping spots for 10 dollars a day.

The perfect challenge. I love this hike because it’s very difficult and the reward up top is the best in all of Georgia.

This trail has not been maintenance so the vegetation is extremely high and the trail is hard to see when you go in deeper. I advise to take a machete and gaiters. The best bet is to wait it out to winter to try to hike this trail.

First to Review

This is a nice hike. It gets ever steeper as you near the summit and the final pitch is very steep. The views are worth it, though.
