Had such a wonderful time with a great guy!!!

My only beef with this mountain is that you couldn't sit down without ants gettin on ya! Other than that, it was awesome!

My favorite short trail to date. I don't know what river the description is referring to, I hiked this trail about 15 times last year using different shortcuts (for a steeper incline) and never found a river. The rock cliff is absolutely breathtaking, be careful on very windy days. The summit is an open field in the center of the woods but it is still beautiful. Multiple places to camp. Please remember IF YOU PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Happy hiking!!!

Despite the parking area being half full (it's a big parking area) there's usually only a few people to be seen. Look for the skyline of Atlanta, Stone mountain and Kennesaw mt to the south on a clear day. The climb up to the rock face is a good workout. Parts of the trail are washed badly but isn't a real issue. Some of the best views of the southern slope of the Blue Ridge from Mt. Oglethorpe near Jasper to well into North Carolina to the northeast can be had from here.

Great workout with over 1400' of elevation gain over 2 miles. A little past half way up you'll come across a clearing that is a lower landing zone for helicopters involved in Army Ranger Trailing out of Camp Merrill in Dahlonega. After passing this you will come to one of the most strenuous sections of the hike. There is a trail to the right of the washed out path that makes it a little easier.

At about 1.6mi you'll reach a Latrine 78 and a staging area used by the Rangers. Feel free to use the facilities if nature calls.

The trail circles the top of the mountain, with the best views being on the south side rock face. The bald at the peak is the top landing zone used during training. Sometimes you'll see Ranger activity in the area. Just be sure to stay clear of them. You'll also see cables used by Rangers for climbing training.

I took off one star since the trail at the top of the mountain is not well blazed.

Great views at summit off rock face. Well maintained with a few areas poorly marked at junctions.
