Getting There

Vogel State Park charges a $5 parking fee. You can also purchase an annual pass that is valid at all Georgia State Parks for $50. This is a short hiking trail that leads down to two large waterfalls and a swimming hole. The trail is at times steep but short. There are stairs in a few places. There a two waterfalls. The bottom fall is 0.25 miles from the parking lot and the top fall is another 0.2 miles. The one at the top is one of the most beautiful you will find in Georgia. The falls drop into an exotic blue, green lagoon. There is a wooden deck, but you can go around and get closer. Be careful though!

There are about 10 parking spaces but on weekends in the summer they can fill up. There are no facilities. Parking is free.

Take Highway 19/129 towards Vogel State Park. Just about 1.2 miles South of Vogel State Park turn on to Helton Creek Creek Road (which begins here). The road is paved at first then quickly becomes a gravel Forest Service Road, though it is well maintained. Drive 1.4 miles from Highway 19/129 to the well marked parking lot for the falls.

Well maintained, but lots of inconsiderate people thought it’d be a good place to litter...other then that, worth the drive! Easy and gorgeous!

Super easy trek but very slick and muddy from the recent rains. But the rains contributed to some beautiful falls...white and roaring! Worth the bumpy ride to check out this beauty.

This is a beautiful hike! The falls are amazing! But very slippery at the top! Beware! I slipped & fell & thankfully my husband grabbed me up or I would’ve gone down the falls! It’s also very muddy so wear good waterproof boots. Driving to the trail was bumpy & you cross over water in two spots but all kinds of cars were making it across. Very enjoyable hike!

I navigated to the falls the side that has 2 creek crossings while in your car, and the water was several inches deeper. With AWD I made it through but I’d recommend going the other way. A bit muddy but very short hike down to the falls.

I can’t say the 2 mile dirt road there was a fun ride but the falls were absolutely beautiful. (Muddy so wear appropriate shoes).

2 mile drive in does take 10-15 mins, rocky with potholes, very few pull offs for a 1 car wide drive. Hike to falls is muddy with steps, but not hard. Beautiful views!

Easy hike my 78 yr old parents came and didn’t need much help, a walking stick would help with a couple spots. Short hike amazing views and can jump in under the falls if you want a cold refreshing splash. Please share and don’t spend your day there, let others come and enjoy also because limited space and parking.

It was amazing. The drive in was gorgeous. Yes you cross 2 small creeks but we watched Honda Accords do it, so anyone can.

Very beautiful falls! Like other reviews state it is a bit tricky getting to the falls. There are two water crossings but we have a truck so not a big deal. All types of vehicles were also making it across. The road is not paved & only wide enough for one vehicle at a time & there are pull-offs. The falls are spectacular! But I cannot stress enough that the top of the lower falls is VERY slippery!! I slipped & fell & bounced back up & slipped again & would have gone down the falls had my husband not grabbed me! So beware & don’t get too close because the wet-looking rocks are extremely slippery & could be be dangerous. Also, go early if you’re concerned with crowds. Parking is very limited as well.

Had a nice ride there in a Jeep (all cars could make it). Parking was crowded because we chose a beautiful fall day to go. Steps, bridges and observation decks made it easy....however, a little muddy in spots. Enjoyed the falls!

Wasn't able to make it to the trailhead since the road we came in on had high water that we couldn't cross! I think we were coming in from 348 maybe? Anyway - look at the map and DON'T go the route that has the road crossing rivers multiple times unless you have a high-clearance vehicle like a big truck or a Jeep Wrangler. We ended up doing Trahlyta Trail instead and it was a nice short walk with a waterfall to see.

Traffic was impossible. Truly. I left feeling so stressed. If you have a pullout when you encounter someone, use it because they may not. A guy passed me after not pulling out and I ended up having to push his side view mirror in so he could squeeze past with about 4 inches to spare.

More on the falls in a second, but first, THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO GET THERE! The road in from 348 apparently has 2 water crossings and takes 30-40 minutes. Go in from Hwy 19! You go through a neighborhood to start, then a gravel road. Granted, it’s narrow in places but very doable (we’ve done it in a Miata). It’s about 2 miles total. And now the falls. We went today during the tail end of hurricane Delta and getting 3” of rain. The falls were amazing, but definitely no swimming today! Astounding amount of water. Short hike but roots and lots of puddles.
