Crooked River: Crooked River State Park to Brickhall Bluff is a 2.7 mile out and back trail located near St Marys, Georgia. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for hiking and canoeing.
There are many trails in Crooked River with some beautiful scenery. This area is very flat so the trails are easy for the whole family. I love taking my bike to Crooked River or just walking around the park. I have seen deer, turtles, rabbits, hogs, birds, loads of snakes and even a bear while on the trails, I lived in that area for years and for about 2-3 years I was in the park 2-5 times a week. Sempervirens is a nice wooded trail with an area to birdwatch and areas to look out at the marsh. The board walk trail is behind the nature center, it has several board walks because that area is sometimes marshy, it leads around to Palmetto trail which is a boring trail with palmettos on both sides but occasionally you can see deer in this area. Be sure to bring bug repellent, the mosquitos in this area are insane and watch for snakes.
They have been plowing fire breaks and some of the trails have been plowed up.
It was a decent trail and met some nice people
The Palmetto trail through the woods was rather disappointing. Tall plants and nothing to see. After finishing it, and going for a walk along the river we seen a couple dolphins making their way down river. Not sure how common that is there, but it was a awesome sight.
