Lots of open areas so bring a hat or sunglasses. Lovely Civil War monuments and markers along the way.

really enjoyed it. we did the longer 5.5 mile loop. well shaded. elevation changes really minimal. some good history of the civil war at the beginning

Saw lots of deer! Well-maintained main path so it was pretty clear where to go.

Nice trail system. Would like the trails to be marked better as it was a bit confusing.

Several cars have been broken into at this trail. We found out because our vehicle was stolen and 4 other cars were broken into at the same time. The police and rangers said burglaries at the Kennesaw mountain trails are common. But yet they don’t have any officers patrolling the parking lots.

Had fun with the wife, 3 year old, and dog.

I've hiked this trail before with friends and their kids. The civil war memorabilia is neat and it's an enjoyable trail. Today, we saw a young doe and buck eating. We will certainly go again.

It was a very nice hike. My 11 yr old son probably needed a shorter hike but he did enjoy it.

Highly travelled, which has its pros and cons. I would classify this as very easy to easy. Mostly flat with beautiful wildlife and scenery.

Nice trail beautiful sites along the way, look out for horse poop and dog poop!

It was great a lot of history here I really enjoyed myself her with my family

Nice trail - nearly a mile and a half of the trail is uncovered so bringing a hat /sunscreen maybe a good idea. You will find this trail has a slower pace than some, historical markers, monuments and abundant wildlife make this a very interesting trail and a great one for kids too. A few changes in elevation get the heart rate up some but overall very manageable. Good for pets, saw many on the hike.

The Cheatham Hill Trail is a smaller part of the larger Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. While the trail is classified here as moderate, it is very easy with only slight inclines along the battlefield. It is not a particularly exciting trail, nor is it very scenic. Nestled between roads and residential areas, the trail never really allows one to disconnect from the real world and just enjoy the views. There are a couple of smaller creeks and plenty of wooded areas here, but look out for horse shit, which is literally covering large swaths of the trail. Despite the shit, the trail appears to be very well maintained, as it is park of the National Parks service. The redeeming factor is the connection to the Civil War battlefield. There are cannons and monuments scattered throughout the area. A history buff who enjoys the occasional walk in the wood would find more use of this trail than an avid hiker mildly interested in the past. It's boring, not very scenic and covered in horseshit. But, it's well-maintained and has an historical connection to the Civil War.

good but a little boring

trail running

My go to trail run. It hasn't gotten old yet! Peaceful and just enough hills to keep it interesting.

Not really a hiking trail. Good for running or going for a walk.

Saturday, May 17, 2014

It's true, this trail is long, boring, and full of poop. I could not wait until it was over, and not because I was exhausted. The flies from the horse poop did not make it any better. There's a stretch that's very close to traffic as well, so the "go get lost" part of hiking doesn't exist here. The Kennesaw trail system has a lot to offer, but unless you're horseback, pick another route. We did see wild turkeys and a baby mole, and that made me pretty happy.

Long, easy, and FULL of horse poop! Saw some turkeys. Kinda confusing where the east meets west trail.

It's a good workout and peaceful if you go early in the morning. There are usually wildlife along the way. Well marked and water on the trail except in winter.
