We hiked this on a Tuesday in July, around 9 a.m. We saw 2 other people, 1 dog, multiple types of mushrooms, 1 giant black spider, and 1 fly fisherman. There are plenty of places to view the river, and one rocking bench to sit and watch the water flow. The path is almost entirely shaded and well-marked. There are many forks along the way, but even if you take a wrong turn, you won't go too far into the woods before you run into another map and an opportunity to get back on the path you intended.

Ok this is my second review, because I have now ran this trail a few times. 1. Still need to pay attention to the trail forks or you will head in the wrong direction. 2. Watch out for the horse poo, shame those riding can’t show some respect for others. 3. Some sections are getting covered with tree leaves so watch out for rocks and roots. 4. Several people do this trail on weekend and most know and trail courtesy, seams common since but unfortunately it’s not.. 5. One trail to run or hike, you will see lots of wildlife and the views are worth tackling this trailer.

Good trail to hike with lots of views and lots of trail maps. If running keep left at first two forks otherwise you will be running other side trails. If you want to step it up start at the top of the dam.

This is a great walk. We did about 1.25 out and turned around. Beautiful views of the lake. It is posted No Dogs (seems to be part of the park across the road) but we saw no one other than a couple of fishermen thigh-deep in the water. So, whatever...

A good run as long as you stay on the main trail; if you head toward the river too much, the trail gets rough and you find yourself going up and down muddy banks and crossing water on logs. The trail is well marked and, on the way back, I saw where I made the wrong turn. All in all a fun run, and I’ll do it again.

Beautiful trail with plenty of river access and lots of wildlife. We hiked right into a deer who was eating and watched her for awhile. We also saw a blue heron and a hawk! It’s a very easy skill level, just make sure you follow the map to stay on this trail. There are a few other trails toward the beginning that lead up into local neighborhoods and will add a significant amount of mileage and difficulty to your hike. We followed the trail all the way down to the local fish hatchery. If you go down into the hatchery there is also a short nature trail there.

This is a beautiful trail for spring, lots of wildflowers and the woods are so dense and green! Most of the trail is close enough to hear the river, so it’s very peaceful, and there are plenty of side paths that go directly to the edge for nice views. If you hike with dogs, note that they are only allowed on Bowman’s Island Trail, which is managed by the National Parks and costs $5 to access. If you want to visit the base of Buford Dam, that area is right down the same road but managed by the Army Corps, so pets aren’t allowed there.

A nice easy nature walk by the river

I parked in the day use lot ($5) next to Buford Dam. From there I headed across the river to the NW side of the Chattahoochee. There is one path that takes you up a little elevation and loops back to the trail that borders the river. I ran into a guy who mentioned there was also a trail on the other side of the river, so I headed back to find that. The east side trail had a bit more elevation. The trails are well maintained and have a bit of rock and trees to traverse. I saw quite a few deer in the hills along this trail. For a beautiful Saturday am, it wasn't too crowded. Great trail for running or hiking. Dogs and it seems like horses are also welcome.

Very well maintained trail with several different ecological systems. The main trail; along the river is flat with nice views of the river. you can also do a loop at the start of the hike with more elevation gain and lengthen the hike to about 5 miles. The trail is in the North Bowmans Island CRNRA park.
