Not as easy as they said. More moderate trail. Good for semi-experienced hikers.

I wish they’d fix the bridge / boardwalk below the dam - maybe we can get some Eagle Scout candidate to look into it. It could be a big job, but it’s a great part of the trail that is currently closed. Same with the damaged bridges on the NE part of the laurel ridge trail. Otherwise it was a great day. Stopped at the park for a phone interview and a snack.

overall good trails. 2 very different trails. The last 3rd of the laurel ridge trail was confusing as it was in and out of beach areas etc. I had to ask someone working for the park to help assist and they pointed to the trail continuance that passed behind the bathrooms. I would have never found it otherwise. The white markers on the trees have faded. The trail needs some TLC in that regard.

HikingBridge out

note that there is a bridge out and it cuts the distance slightly. Lots of leaves on the trail make it a little bit difficult given the number of rocks. However it is still a great hike close to home and worth getting out for a spin.

It's my backyard. I love it. What more can you ask for? I walk out my back door with rod in hand or dog in tow and hike for miles. This is an amazing area to live.

My home backs up to the Bowmans Island section of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area. I can walk out my backdoor and within just a few minutes, I can be casting for Trout or hiking for miles and miles. I am so lucky to have this as my backyard! By parking at the Lower Pool, day hikers can enjoy an easy stroll along the river or a more challenging wooded hike above the lake.

These two trails should not be lumped together; they are separately great trails but so different they need to be done at different times. Laurel Ridge is a great lakeside trail with a lot of elevation change. The other trail, called here the “Buford Dam Trail” is really the National Park Service Bowman Island Trail. It is well marked and follows the river from the spillway at the Dam down to the Buford Hatchery, about 2 miles one way. Easy and flat, but not as interesting as Laurel Ridge. There is not a formal connection between the two trails. You leave Laurel Ridge on a walkway over to the spillway and then cross the spillway on a large steel bridge across the spillway. Follow your nose through a large parking lot (latrine and water fountain), down the road a short way to a parking lot at the Bowman Island Trailhead. The bridge at the start looks like it is closed but that is just to keep horse riders out. The trail is populated mostly by fly fishermen. NO DOGS ALLOWED☹️

Nice trail- very flat except for a small hill at the very end. Lots of trail runners- with the flatness of the trail I see the appeal for trail running.

The Buford Dam in and out hike is worth doing once. It follows the Hooch and the trail is NOT marked. Without All Trails app I would have been lost for days

It's an easy hike. Nice only if you don't mind hearing cars around you or seeing power lines.

Great wooded trail. Overall easy trail. Saw a couple of deer. Nice view of the lake. Wasn't too busy on a week day. Army Corps of Engineers property so no firearms are allowed. Pets are not allowed on the trail.

Most of the trail was not busy at all and this was on a Sunday. If you do the whole loop you get to see all different parts of the park. A very pleasant day spent hiking.

Mostly flat trail around the park (Laurel Ridge ) and their are great single track trails down both banks of the Chattahoochee River. The Mountain Man Dam Hard Trail Run and Half Marathon in October is utilizes All of the trails and is a great Grass roots run. Check it out on Ultrasignup.com
