Need a t-shirt that says, “We got lost at Fort Mountain State Park.” We tried this one but got turned around a few times and it was pretty strenuous, so we will be getting in better shape, mapping it out, and hitting it at a later date!
The transition from Big Rock to Gahuti was INTENSE. It was very very rocky, and challenging to navigate with a toddler hiking backpack. Beautiful. Multiple creek crossings on the Goldmine Creek part. Went on Friday morning, saw no one else on the trail until the very end when we had to go on lake trail. As we left it seemed like a lot of folks were coming in to camp for the weekend. Seemed longer than 3.5 miles.
Not a bad hike , some nice creeks to cross over and found a nice spot to hang up some hammock to rest a bit.
Started this loop trail at the lake trail then hit the gold mine trail to the guhati trail to big rock and finished the loop back to the lake trail. Great views with lots of Rhododendron to meander through. Finish with a nice waterfall.
