In the late 1800s "Bear" Joe Lunsford was a farmer and peacher in the Suches area. He'd climb to a rocky outcrop on what's now the Appalachian Trail to practice his sermons. The view is incredible, and today it's only a half-hour's walk off the pavement. The Appalachian Trail crosses the highway here. Follow the trail to the right, towards Neil's Gap and Blood Mountain. Look for the trail markers: white rectangles 2" wide by 6" high. These are known as "white blazes." The first two-thirds of the hike to preacher's rock are a nice, easy hike.

Hiked up yesterday morning since I was on the way to Trailfest in Dahlonega. The weather was perfect and the views were breathtaking, just as I remember them from last time I was there about 8 years ago. Met a lot of friendly people, some that I seen again later at the festival! If you've never been to Trailfest, you should make it a point to go next year. Good times!! Last night decided to go back up to Woody Gap and camp for the night. Very busy spot. Happy hiking everyone!!!✌️

Fantastic Views. Wonderful Hike. Continued past Preachers Rock to Blue Blazed side trail to overlook camp site for another view just as amazing. Will continue on to Blood Mountain next time. Get there early, parking is at a premium. Thins out considerably past Preachers Rock.

Awesome hike! First half mile or so is very easy and relatively flat on a good beaten down path, then it starts to get pretty steep with several moderate parts that are more strenuous. I'd rate this overall on the very low side of moderate. The view at Preacher's Rock is absolutely incredible and one of the best I've ever seen-- only 0.9 miles to Preachers from the beginning of this trailhead. You can then go up another mile or so for another beautiful overlook. Saw a few bear tracks but thankfully no bears. Passes 6 or 7 other hikers on a weekday morning. Very enjoyable hike!

We loved this hike on the AT. Beautiful view at Preacher's Rock, easy to moderate walk, great place for parking. We will definitely do it again, only next time we will hike all the way to Blood Mtn.

The view from Preacher's Rock is definitely worth seeing. It's a bit steep in the middle, but there were people hiking from all age groups and fitness levels with a fair amount of ease.
