The greenspace was originally part of a WWI army training camp and later, a crash runway site for the Peachtree-Dekalb (PDK) airport. In February 2018, the city of Brookhaven purchased the property and changed the name from the PDK Airport Greenspace to the Ashford Forest Preserve. The city and various volunteer groups are devoted to making continuous improvements and have already made significant progress. Currently, there 4 blazed trails marked with tape (Blue, 0.36 mi.; Red, 0.23 mi; Orange, 0.4 mi; and Yellow, 0.23 mi). Some trails are more improved than others. Signage could still be improved, and a Map Kiosk would be helpful. Even in its present state, it is a welcomed nature park for this area of metropolitan Atlanta.
