Parking at the Andrew Cove so I parked to the side of the road. The walk up to Indian Gap was all up hill. Or at least it felt like it. There is a stream that runs most of the way up so there is plenty of water. I joined the AT at the top of the trail and headed to Tray Mt. Super clear, sunny, but windy day. Finished off my trail data to complete the GA section of the AT. 9.4 round trip, good hike to shake out my legs for my Foothills Trail hike.

I kinda feel this climb is more strenuous than Blood Mountain, because you sometimes go directly up the slope rather than along switchbacks. Just find the pace and focus on breathing. When you reach the steep wooden steps and feel like you've had just about enough, push just a little farther up and you'll be done. Take a break at Indian Grave Gap up top then choose your next adventure.

Deceptive at first - the two+ mile hike to the AT (app says 3.5, signs said 2 - I’m inclined the truth is in the middle) ends at Indian grave gap and the last stretch is a long slog uphill - gets the heart going but not too hard, never see a person on this trail - it’s a great way to tack on 2 miles of solitude til you get to the AT and decide north or south - north to Tray has the better camping.

It is not open year round - blocked off October 31, 2016. Parking off road not feasible. Check with ranger office for more details.

There is a trail here but it doesn't really go reward at the end. Part of it is straight up hill and quite treacherous. Great leg workout!
