Description
Waypoints (1)

This is a very “typically Wellington” hike. It is paved, there are professional facilities, and the trail/boardwalk is very well maintained. From the viewing tower, you can see the whole preserve. Accessibility: There are 4 designated handicapped-accessible spaces in the paved parking lot off of 160th Avenue on the east end. All of them are van-accessible with striped access aisles. The trail surface is smoothly paved asphalt or boardwalk and typically at least six feet wide. The estimated grade is flat (all 1% or less) so this trail will likely be navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers.

I’m a more rugged hiker, but this was a very “typically Wellington” hike. It was paved, there were professional facilities, and the trail/boardwalk was very well maintained. It was a cute sunset hike to do while visiting my elder parents. Be warned: this hike is not at all shaded so do it on a cloudy day or at sunrise/sunset. If you go near sunset, be out of the park before the sun completely sets. They closed the gate at 7:40pm in the dot. It was nice to see the swamp from the boardwalk and to go up the viewing tower to see the whole preserve. Very relaxing. :-)

Walking

This trail is the best in the early morning or before sunset so you can see more of the animals. Definitely bring some binoculars if you want to see stuff. The trail is paved and has two long bridges so you can look at the water. I have seen many alligators and other wildlife in the water. The tower is closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic as of June. Not sure when it will reopen.

Very nice trail, crushed lime rocks and raised above the floodplain so it’s typically not very muddy except for a couple of puddles. Good for hiking and mountain biking. You’ll see flamingos, Raptors, perhaps an eagle, maybe some alligators and if you’re lucky, a bobcat. There is good parking and a nice bathroom at the park entrance.

this preserve is beautifully done. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it is done. Amazing 6 story lookout half way through. The walk ways are paved but I did see a sign for a horse trail

Took my 4yo daughter. She loved it. We saw 2 rabbits her first time seeing One in the wild. Lots of puddles on the paved portion, our shoes and socks were soaked. Will return.

Easy, fun trail but be warned there is basically no shade on this trail so on a hot day you will really feel it.
