Sweetwater Loop is a 3.4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Gainesville, Florida that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Tons of birds, alligators and wild horses. The major draw is the boardwalk which has a bunch of informational kiosks about the park (it's an engineered water filtration system for the Florida aquifer). It's open sun up to sun down and the views are unbeatable. There is no shade on the trail so be sure to bring sunscreen and water.
Very open trail and see really far. Beautiful area. Alligators are around and lots of birds.
Amazing! Lots of birds and alligators! No shade...bring sunblock or an umbrella!
Enjoyed part of the trail. My young children had fun seeing all the wildlife and plants. But we only did the big loop. Will go back again. There is a $5 fee per vehicle helps take care of these parks. There are bathrooms near the parking lot. OPEN (September '20). Lots of signs and arrows. No shade bring sunblock and hat.
The trail is very flat but also very exposed to the sun. There are alot of areas to stop and sit with shade though. the trail is a well maintained gravel path with great views of the wildlife and wetlands.
Trails were all paved and had great views. I ran into two snakes will walking which was awesome! There was no shade so bring a hat and bottled water. Views were amazing and peaceful. You will need to pay for parking via a parking app. No cash accepted.
Really neat way to see part of the Prairie. Not a lot of shade options other than a few shaded benches, so bring a hat and a lot of water. Trails were wide and well maintained
