Great hike with impressive sand dunes and ocean views. Required a special permit to hike past where the paved road ends.
The State designated Wilderness area is great. From the trailhead, It's 7 miles out and back, for a total of 14 miles. Once you get a mile away from the trailhead it is really quiet and peaceful with few people. We camped and hiked out along the beach. Lots of wildlife in this special place.
Easy hike to primitive campground. Soft sand though. Camp site #3 is behind the dunes with an incredible view! A great way to experience what Florida probably looked like before human development.
Loved the Wilderness trail. From the gate, It's 7 miles. Out and back, for a total of 14 miles. It is 100% sand trail, it will feel like 50 miles.
We did about 4 miles out on the trail then crossed over to the beach for the return. Tons of shells on the beach. February, we cut fresh prints in the beach.
Where out of cell range after a couple miles out.
