This hike traverses over wooded ancient dunes of maritime hammock onto even hillier Timucuan shell mounds, past a hermit's cabin, to an observation point overlooking a salt marsh along the St. Johns. On the return trip you pass a Confederate Soldier's grave and then reach a high point and vista before returning to the trailhead.

Favorite hike north of the GTM. Beautiful ending. Trail hugging the marsh is great for nature lovers. Cool history as well.

Well marked trail. Beautiful views on the water and marshes. Moderately trafficked on a Sunday morning. Lots of variety in the scenery and elevation changes.

A good workout, more technical than others I have done. Good elevation changes.
