Smyrna Dunes Boardwalk Trail is a 1.6 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near New Smyrna Beach, Florida that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A very nice walk to the beach and inlet jetties along a boardwalk with small pavilions. Please note there is a parking fee. Accessibility: The trail surface is boardwalk and typically at least five feet wide. The estimated grade is gentle (all 3% or less) so this trail will likely be navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers.
There is an auto fee $5 for parking. Access is free for non-auto users in the parking lot and the restroom facility is by the parking area and designated by men & women.
The first left road from the north causeway.
Warm, 80 degrees. Sun and clouds. A front rolling in. Very windy.
Great trail, beautifully maintained! $10 or $20 for a year pass.
Beautiful walk and very enjoyable. Great for families and just a overall good place to relax.
very pleasant surprise finding this trail. beautiful scenery and the weather couldn't be better. come take a walk or jog. worth getting out for.
Sue and I discovered this park while driving thru New Smyrna. We bought annual pass and it was very well worth it, the board walk and small pavilions are great. Very nice walk to beach/inlet jetties. We will make this park a favorite
Beautiful place for a walk. Our dog had her first experience on a beach. We will definitely be back.
This is a very easy trail with an elevated boardwalk that was completely redone in 2018. The trail provides access to a dog park/beach along the Indian River and Ponce Inlet. You can easily see the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse across the Inlet. It is the tallest lighthouse (over 400 ft high) in Florida. It also fronts the Atlantic Ocean. The trail is a large 1.6 mile loop that has 10 covered “pavilions” where you can stop, sit, eat lunch or exercise. You may also see wildlife - gopher tortoises, snakes, osprey, Eagles, etc. You can also stop and watch the local surfers. We walk this trail daily. It’s always a fun nature walk and easy way to get your daily exercise!!
Boardwalk through the sand dunes. Has covered picnic tables distributed throughout the walk. Beach access. Very hot during the middle of the day
I like that I can access the river, inlet or ocean beach from this loop trail. It is an easy walk and the new boardwalk is very nice. $20 for the year is a good price for admission for locals, but not sure I'd pay $10 each visit without a pass. I don't have a dog, but everyone else seems to. Dogs can go swimming on the river side and I've seen manatees there. The new fishing pier is beautiful. The place can get very busy on weekends and holidays. I try to go during the week.
Pretty! love that dogs have their own beach and swim in the water. Walking the boardwalk is a nice way to get them excited, which parallels a sand trail too. No one is allowed on the inside of the circluar boardwalk, so the beach is the only escape. The park does have restrictions on which parts of the boardwalk allows dogs, so be mindful of signs. Be cautious of the current in the water if you visit the beach with your four legged best friend
