Nice and very long hike.

16 miles out and back from pats island trailhead to juniper springs. Pretty thick for 75 percent of the trail then opens up around the ponds before going back into the thick scrub. No signs of bears, couple of deer, turkeys and quail. If you go early and are the first one on the trail bring a stick to clear the hundreds of spider webs.

Incredible 21 mile day hike! My group and I trekked the southern path starting from Juniper Springs Rec. Area, during the winter time, early Jan. 2018. This trail offers very diverse scenery, which was nice to stay engaged, and excited for what more you might discover. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great and unique place to explore in FL!

Did this section and another farther south over labor day for a two day 25 mile point-to-point.

Pros: Trail was lovely and well maintained. Literally had the trail to myself on a holiday weekend because it isn't "hiking season" in FL yet. Flat and easy to put in miles.

Cons: It wasn't hiking season for a reason, temps were in the 90's both days and the ticks and chiggers were out in force. Water is pretty available but requires some nerve to wade out to depending on which pond you're at.

Very nice, full of wildlife! Bears are frequent.
