Lovely light walk. Great information along the way. Beautiful area.
Nice short and flat hike. Gives a real immersion in nature despite being right off the road. Starts as board walk then transitions to sand dune and finally tree shaded sandy path. Nobody on the trail in late October 2020. At the time, the only hiking trail open following extensive damage to the park from 2018 Hurricane Michael.
Love Love Love!!! White Christmas in Florida! This was perfect for my family. We had four kids under 3 and they all loved it! Parking/wilderness permit were like $6 per car I think. Go until all the way to the end, and when you meet a fork in the road keep going right, then you’ll arrive where the pavement ends and walk up to a white trail of sand. It’s glorious! We went when the sun was setting and had such a great time!
The State designated Wilderness area is great. From the trailhead, It's 7 miles out and back, for a total of 14 miles. Once you get a mile away from the trailhead it is really quiet and peaceful with few people. We camped and hiked out along the beach. Lots of wildlife in this special place.
Loved the Wilderness trail. From the gate, It's 7 miles. Out and back, for a total of 14 miles. It is 100% sand trail, it will feel like 50 miles. We did about 4 miles out on the trail then crossed over to the beach for the return. Tons of shells on the beach. February, we cut fresh prints in the beach. Where out of cell range after a couple miles out.
