We did the 10.6 mile loop. We went counter clockwise with 4 people and our dog. First two miles were lovely then it lost its allure. The amount of ticks is appalling. My husband eventually had about eight on him throughout the trip and several on our dog we had to consistently remove. People in our party also found several ticks. So hot. We had to wade through water just below our knees. Saw one baby snake (black and white) along with so many massive spiders on eye level webs. Towards the last two miles, the spiders switched it up and had themselves at calf height. Will not return to this trail.

As always I love hiking. It was rather warm. I didn’t see any wildlife except for flying insects. Did see evidence of hogs rooting. I took the blueberry cross paths which was nice. And then I took the jeep trail partway back. Always nice to try something different.

Cool campsite right before the loop starts. Watch out for rattlesnakes

Trail was shady for the most part. Went in the afternoon so it was not too hot and muddy. Did get to see an adalesent bear run across our path.

I enjoyed it very much but it is not a popular trail. Florida Trail is marked solid, lower Wekiva is decent to follow but some of the horse trail blazes can get confusing after a quick road walk where you leave the Florida Trail. On the rest of the loop you are out there, I only saw two people when I got close to getting back. The old railroad bed is in solid shape and there is a small camp to take a break at. If your looking for solitude, this up your alley.

Decent trail in and out of different eco systems—around 10 miles total. There are some not so well marked parts of the trail but not too bad overall. I like this trail in this park bc it is a loop. The Florida Trail here is out and back which can be a bit much without two cars. Also it’s only 2 bucks per car—Wekiva Springs will run you 6 for more than one person.

Quiet hike through the Lower Wekiva Loop at the Seminole State Forest. Trail was well marked. Pockets of shade and lots of open spaces so be careful when sunny and humid. Some some stretches of sugar sand. Overall a peaceful hike. Did not encounter much wildlife.
