After getting buffaloed by the buffaloes on Bolin Bluff trail, we went to the main entrance and did this trail. It's really part Jackson Gap trail ,part lake trail ,with a cross through the campground parking lot . We did see a deer, much less intimidating than the buffalo at Bolin Bluff. It was partially flooded and probably will be the rest of the summer so we were actually on the road for awhile. Still it was a nice hike.

It’s $4 to get in with one person in the car or $6 for a group and it’ll be the best $6 you ever spend. It’s not too buggy for Florida, and the observation tower has such an amazing view! Where else in Florida do you get to see so much open space?

Used part of this trail to access Cone’s Dike. Was fairly dry, as opposed to parts of the Chacala trail. Pick up a trail map—the white diamond portion of the Chacala trail (heading to the blue triangle section) was flooded. The forest is beautiful, though, in the passable areas. Worth checking out. Jackson’s Gap trail heads up toward the observation tower, which is a great way to get a view of the prairie.
