Thought we might get a gander at the west side of Lake Apopka and some reptiles but no avail. The island part of the trail looks like it was bush-hogged a couple of weeks ago, which presented some minor slogging. Not sure we would do this again, but enjoy the solitude.

The entrance is good need more parking spaces. Over all are good. EXCEPT the square trail area on the map is over grown not maintained. All it needs is good lawn cutting.

The first couple of miles from the start are easy and very scenic and worthwhile. However, after you reach the section on this map where the loop begins, you cross Ranch Road and the trail gets grassy but not rough by any means. However, if you follow this trail and make the right in the next .5 miles that it shows on the map, most of that becomes very overgrown and the last quarter mile to the next turn is virtually bushwhacking. I'd recomend going straight on to Lk Apopka overlook use part of the Clay Island Loop trail for your return or head back. My YouTube link documents our experience: https://youtu.be/JXorE96SaZk

There was a portion of the Clay Island Loop that couldn’t be passed today. Otherwise, it was peaceful and beautiful. Only a little mud.

Relatively flat trail. Paved for the first bit and then slightly more primitive as you progressed. Not super exciting for a hiker but might be best for the mountain bikers and trail runners. Very well maintained though and great bathrooms. Decent amount of parking as well. Didn’t finish the whole thing. Even though the weather was cooler, the mosquitos were working my nerves.

this trail is not my cup of tea. It was basically like just walking down the road in the woods for most of it it wasn’t like a dirt trail that I’m used to personally it was mainly just a paved not maintained road towards the back of it it’s not very accurate to what the trail actually is now so you have to really make sure you’re reading the maps not going by the app which kind of sucks because if you go by the map it’s you just following an open road most of it but it is what it is

Easy trail, but the long 10 mile loop down to the lake is mostly without shade. Lots of wildlife to view. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Good 10 mile loop. Most of the trail is not covered. Saw a bunch of gators.

Could be marked better. Got lost 3-4 times! Walked much farther than intended. But nice scenery.

This is a great trail if you want to explore wildlife like birds or armadillos or if you just want to get away for a while. We frequently take our dog for a long hike or our bicycles for the whole loop. There are plenty of benches to rest and bathroom facilities as well as a picnic area. We highly recommend you explore this trail with a fantastic lookout.
