One of my favorite places in the world to visit. You can just feel the energy in this place! Such an awesome glimpse of history! Also great to watch the blue angels from here as well.

Wonderful trail! Pause and look around as you're crossing the small bridge; we saw several large turtles in the water and 2 blue heron nests in the treetops! The fort is really nice, too!

A little hard to find where the trail started. Easy to work. Unfortunately was unable to complete the trail due to the amount of mosquitoes. Does anyone know if the best time to attempt?

Walking

Great trail. I walked it, kinda veered off course when I got to the Fort to take pictures. Tennis shoes are perfect and ideal. Don’t do sandals or anything that’s open. There are tons of pine needles and prickly pear cactus around. If I lived here I would absolutely frequent this trail for running and biking. You can take a mountain bike or trail bike no problem. I came at the middle of the day, started at 1130 and ended at 1430. It was hot. There were quite a few shady spots along the way and a breeze that kept the sun tolerable. Otherwise I would have started earlier or came in the evening. There weren’t too many bugs to bother with as long as you kept moving. At this time the only bathrooms that were available to me were the ones at the trail head “Beach Access #16” and at the end where the Fort Auditorium and Officer Housing is. In the middle where I stopped to take pictures of the battery, there were closed bathrooms but a running water spigot if you were in a pinch. At the end however, the same place where the bathrooms are available is a water bottle filling station still running and cold. The trail can be started at the “Beach Access #16” because that’s the only real parking available closest to the trail head. The campground registration area is only temporary parking for registering to camp and the roads have signs that say no roadside parking. At the end when you get back to your car, you can easily access the beach if you want to cool down in the water.

Local here, and this isn’t a bad hike! You can climb around the fort and the trails have some shaded areas. There is a watering station by the camp grounds and bathrooms if needed. Although the bathrooms are closed due to covid-19. Easy hike.

Perfect combination of beach and land, parked at the designated parking lot and then walked all the way to the Fort Pickens national park and monuments. Made it in perfect time for a free tour of the place. Beautiful scenery and friendly people. I wouldn’t mind doing this hike again.

fun trail, I push my kids in a bob stroller, start at the Langdon Battery. The app glitched and was showing a 63 mile hike when I was down, should have only been around 3.5 miles if that. Nice little trail to see ospreys, armadillos, blue heron, dunes mice and snakes, ducks in the winter will get in the marsh as well. The fort is always fun to visit as well, there also a few side trails to fish off of or to get a couple views of the bay.

Easy walk primarily on old railroad bed. History and Fort Pickens is worth the visit and then go for the hike. Upper part of trail by water is very sandy so not for folks that have trouble walking on sand.

This is dog friendly trail. Solid hike to do, easy except for the beach portion which is loose sand.

Fun trail to bike, or if you want to bird walking is best. It houses some excellent spots for birding, especially during migration. Armadillos and snakes are also commonly seen - very cool.

Easy gravel trails with a little sand. Lots of wild life with a mix of views of the ICW and on the other side the Gulf. Public restrooms and water fountains long the trails

Running

Gorgeous trail- very unexpected to find so many trees and marsh areas on this bleak island. The stops along the way at the numerous batteries is fun too. If you come before 8:00 the main fort parking area is inaccessible, so I just parked by the fishing pier and backtracked on foot to the fort and trail beginning.

Started at parking lot. First part of Trail is along the beach but after the first fort, it turns into a nice gravel/dirt path that takes you all the way to the main batteries. Flat all the way, a bit windy along the shoreline. Public bathrooms available along hike. Great hike!
