Waypoints (1)

Silver Springs State Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $8/vehicle ($5 for single occupant vehicles), $2 for visitors entering on foot or bicycle, and $4/vessel launch. The Florida State Parks Annual Pass is also available for $60/individual or $120/family. This trail in Silver Springs State Park is seldom used and though it is marked as wilderness, it is mostly either open two-track or well marked purple hiking/biking trail. It gets thick for the north part of the Ross Allen Camp loop with downed trees and thick palmettos, but there are purple topped posts to guide you. Sign says it's hard, but it's not, and if you get lost, head southwest to the road. Beautiful and quiet trail. Lots of hog damage unfortunately.

The Fort King trail up to the Ross Allen Camp Loop is gorgeous and easy to follow: where the trail is not easy to see, it is clearly marked with a purple blaze and we had zero trouble navigating that part of the trail. We did run across 2 wild hogs and we each went our separate ways. There are a lot of bugs so bring that spray. Once we reached the Ross Allen Camp Loop, the trail all but disappeared. We should have turned around at the large downed tree, as others did, but we made the mistake of navigating around the tree and continuing on. We eventually lost the trail and had to push through thick brush and make our way back to the main trail using the Alltrails map. Minus the bugs and the Ross Allen Camp Loop, I loved the Fort King trail: it is a beautiful forest.

The Fort King part of the trail was well marked and relatively easy. Lots of hog damage. Second loop was less well marked. Lots of fallen trees blocking the trail. Muddy spots and some standing water on the trail. Keep a close eye on your map...lost the trail a time or two. Overall, it was enjoyable. Saw deer and lots of birds. Bring bug spray!!!!

Part of the trail were muddy and flooded. The loop at the end is totally impassable.
