IMPORTANT: Do not follow the directions that AllTrails tries to give you. There is unofficial parking for Dame's Cave along South Lecanto Highway that will take you to the trail after you pass the caves. Following AllTrail's directions will lead you and your car well into the middle of very bumpy dirt and sand roads. It is also an extra 10 minutes or so following their directions. Trail is worth traversing if you enjoy long, endurance hikes. This trail was great for what it is. It is well-marked though blaze color changes a few times throughout (it is a clear change and hard to miss). The trail follows Loop D completely throughout and crosses Loop C at a few times. There are many intersecting dirt roads and bigger trails but there are clear markings keeping you on the hiking trail. The hike crosses quite a few different landscapes. You will be in a shaded forest filled with Golden and Spiny Backed Orb Weavers for a few miles only to find yourself in a less dense, open area with tall trees. The spiders are intense from Mile 2 to 3 (if you go left to start the trail) and the last couple miles. I ran into quite a few birds including a hawk and cardinals. There were also many butterflies and pretty wildflowers throughout. Bring water and be prepared to take breaks without seating. There is one make-shift bench next to the second intersection of Loop C and D. It took me 4 hours to hike the roughly 14 miles.
