Short, easy hike. And a unique eco system or a rather wild river for the east coast.

Loved this trail, was quick and scenic. The river was beautiful, you can hear it from the trail before seeing it.

Fun trail down to the Shoals, not something you can see everyday in Florida. Definitely worth going to.

Its alright. The Big Shoal trail itself is pretty nice and well maintained but if you continue on past it they have blocked it off one way for prescribed burning and the other way takes you to a maze of flooded out trails that will require some backtracking.

My friend and I hiked this trail yesterday. This was one of the best trails I've seen so far. The river being right there beside you with the rapids makes for a unique experience for Florida. I do suggest bug spray as there are mosquitoes here with all the water in the area. I will be going back here again sometime.

Decent trail but make sure to bring bug spray in the summer months! The best views come when the river is at around 55' and the rapids begin to form, not much but sizable for Florida standards. Even at low water levels it's fun to walk around the shoals and view the potholes/geomorphology of the river.

I found this trail on my way to Savannah, and was pleasantly surprised at this gem of a trail. When you first park and make your way to the trail, you'll want to watch out for bat poo! There's a bat house built between the parking and the trail head. There are a lot of tree roots across the trail, so if you're as graceful as I am, you may want to start slow. Palmetto lines the trail which makes for some beautiful shots, but my favorite part are the trees that reach over the edge of the riverbed. The sound of the rapids is very relaxing and there are nice lookout areas to rest for a bit before heading back to the trail head.

Pretty trail along the river. I was just passing thru the area and had no idea what to expect, much less why it is called big shoals. The shoal and beach area was a nice place to sit and relax. Saw many different warblers.

Was a cool hike because the river was running strong over the shoals. Rare sight in FL.

Went out with 2 of my friends and had a great time! The trail runs right next to the Swanee River and there are some really nice spots to stop and take it all in. A must hike for any Florida Hiker!

I really wanted to give this trail 1 star, but it did have like 2 sections that were a nice single track mountain bike trail, especially the part that goes along the river by the big shoals. But the vast majority of the trail was riding through tilled up fire/access dirt/sand roads through the park, and it was miserable. It was horrible. Then to top it all off, the yellow flies are freaking insane. My husband and I rode the entire trail from bottom to top, then rode the loop at the top (which was all spider webs), then decided to take the paved trail back to the car, and were literally chased by probably hundreds of yellow flies the entire way back. They were relentless and made the whole experience worse than it had already been. I would avoid this trail like your life depended on it. And if you decide you do want to ride it, start at the top near the main entrance, then just ride to the Big Shoals rapids and back. That wouldn't be too bad of a ride. But do not even waste your time going on any other trails in the park. Massive waste of time and effort.
