HikingBridge outMuddy

Very nice trail but very muddy - lots of puddles on the trail. Also a lot of trees down on the trail - at one point my wife and I had to figure out a detour around a large one that completely blocked the trail. The biggest issue we had is there's a bridge out behind the Newark Charter School about two miles along the trail from the parking lot off Chestnut Hill Road. We had planned on walking further but ended up turning around there.

Running

Very well marked and maintained trail with easy to follow blue blazes on the trees. It follows along the river the entire way and even goes under a few bridges for a unique experience. It does go near a few backyards, but found that this didn’t distract from the trail.

HikingFloodedMuddy

I found this trail really charming. It’s an easy to follow trail (follow the bright blue markers) that runs through the woods along a creek. It also takes you under some bridges where you can see some cool graffiti. The trail was very well maintained, but I went soon after a recent rain and it was very muddy, and completely flooded in places. Luckily the parts the commonly flood have alternate routes close by. I was lucky enough to encounter some wildlife as well. I passed by a large deer grazing a few yards off the path, and I saw a beaver swimming down the creek. There were also plenty of spots to go fishing. I highly recommend this trail for an easy and enjoying nature walk!

Running

Fun trail to run! It gets slightly confusing in the area around the swim club/bridge, so be on the lookout for trail markings!

Completed about 2.5 miles one way on trail. Beautiful track along river with tons of fishing spots in the beginning. Some houses did back up to the trail but for the most part it was secluded. This was a nice hike. Some areas were muddy but there was just a heavy rain the last few days. Also spotted some poison ivy growing about 2 miles into trail.

First to Review

Not recommended, if you are looking for distance hiking. Trail is unmarked and undefined, beyond one mile. The first mile was nice.
