A sizable trail system with unique granite boulders and clearly marked trails. An awesome place to hike
Lots of trail closures due to power line maintenance, so we had to get a little creative. Beautiful though and fun without being difficult. Absolutely incredible icicles on display, and we had the trails almost entirely to ourselves.
Super lovely area, and not difficult at all, especially, I’m guessing, without all the snow around. This route as mapped is... complex... it appears to be about 9 different turns/trail switches. Which is cool, we’d figured it out before we left and set off counter clockwise. But alas, there’s a bunch of stuff going on with the power lines on the back part of the woods (eg. If the parking lot is at 3 o’clock, roughly 10-7 o’clock are closed atm). So we improv-ed our way back on trails that weren’t closed and ended up clocking just over 5 miles. It was still an awesome time, and we’ll definitely be returning once they finish servicing the area to do the whole route. But be wise where we were foolish—check the trail conditions online before heading out!
Follow the beaten path. Fair amount of snow and ice so hard to follow the trail.
Awesome trail! Lots more ups and downs than I thought there would be!
Perfect easy but interesting hike...well marked trails and not crowded. First time here and I’ll definitely be back.
Enjoyed the variety of woodland trails, rocky climbs and water views.
white square and circle out was easy side of moderate. orange trail back was easy.
Started trail from a dead end street and followed orange circle trail to train tracks but had to turn back because I had no clue where I was going....had some great views of lost lake (I think) and a cave, crossed a small stream, was fun, but confused if any of the trails loop around....need to explore more...
Pretty, and flexible trail system. This ap makes it easy to navigate between different colored trails. We took a detour to get closer to the water and take some fall foliage pics.
My nephew and I followed this enjoyable trail as best as we could using Alltrails GPS and a downloaded map. There is such a crisscrossing of trails that following the downloaded trail was a task in itself. Special attention has to be paid to the colors and shapes of the blazes. There is the blue dot trail, and blue square trail, yellow dot trail and yellow square trail etc, When these blazes are applied with spray paint, it is difficult to separate a circle from a square. Aside from the logistics of mapping, this trail was blend of forest beauty, lake beauty, and challenging in places as we descended and ascended ledge. There were crawl through places and places you had to squeeze through. The terrain was ever changing which made for an enjoyable day. If you are able to stay on the prescribed route, plan on hiking 7 to 8 miles and not 6.1 miles as Alltrails indicates. Do yourself a favor and go to this website, download and print this map to reference on your hike. https://guilfordlandtrust.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/WestwoodsPrintedMapFull.pdf
