Mountain bikingOff trail

The main trail itself that does the full circle is really awesome. It’s a nice and smoothe trail to go biking and do some sight seeing by the lake at the same time! During the course, I took ‘Metacomet Trail’ up to the gravel path where the light poles are and went through the mountain to get there. That was very fun as well. Part of gravel path was blocked off heading towards ‘Little Phillip Mountain’ due to the power company occupying space up there. When trying to go back down to the main trail, just be sure to go the way you came; or through a route that is maintained and labeled (if you decide to take a mountain route). If not, you will find yourself pushing through all the trees, shrubs, bushes, stumps while carrying or pushing your bike as there is no room for riding on the unmarked route I took to go back down. Even though it was stressful at times, that part of my experience was a great workout nonetheless. I was extremely happy once I made it back to the main trail as you move so slow in that part of the mountain / woods that is not maintained. This is due to having to walk and weave your bike and your body over and under (as well as through) ALL the landscape in the way. Then at times constantly picking up the bike over fallen trees while carrying it over rocks, and rolling it down hills that are covered with more rocks, logs, twigs, thorn bushes, etc.

It is a beautiful and peaceful trail. I completed the entire thing by myself on my first visit. The walk is challenging but, I did go during a heatwave. Otherwise, it’s an easy walk. I was startled at one point because a deer came across the path and I was worried about bears due to someone reporting seeing one on this trail three weeks ago. I was fine once I saw some others coming up the opposite direction. Definitely will be doing this one again. Definitely wear sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses as there are long stretches of no shade.

A nice, easy “nature walk” hike. Easy to social distance. My kids enjoyed the wild raspberries along the walk. I would recommend going clockwise so you get the views of the water on the second half. After the last 2 days of pretty strenuous hikes, this was a nice break for all of us. And bonus.... there were hardly any bugs (even on this hot, humid day)!

not much of a hike, it is a walk around the reservoir on a relatively flat trail. It is a pleasant walk, nice views of the reservoir, can see why it is so popular.

Leisurely hike, lots of parking. Half the hike you can’t see the water due to trees obstructing the view, but then it clears up and it’s very peaceful and nice.
