Shade Swamp Sanctuary White Trail Loop is a 1.8 mile loop trail located near Farmington, Connecticut that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail is good for all skill levels and offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It was another walk/hike workout...found some cool things along the way.
I loved this trail. Though the first quarter mile or so was a bit trudgy (semi frozen mud, partially leaf-covered downhill trail), once you get to the foot bridge (much sturdier than it looks) the trail opens up a ton and is much more clear. Trail markers are obvious and plenty - they combined white paint with white rectangles nailed into tree trunks along the path. A handful of times you'll come up to an intersection of paths - you will either see two trail markers (white rectangle) on one tree or a large post that says TRAIL vertically and has an arrow pointing in one direction. The opposite side of the arrow is where you will likely return from once you've rounded the loop, assuming you've stayed on par with the course. There are no crazy inclines or breath taking sights, but it is very much beautiful in its own way - showcasing lots of gorgeous pine trees and other fauna. We had a blast!
this is a nice local spot for a quick walk! the pine trees and pond are pretty. three stars because it’s nothing crazy, but still had fun!
Would be 4 stars if not for the dumb graffiti on the abandoned buildings at the beginning
I brought my two year old here for a walk because other reviews said it was child friendly. it was very swampy and there were many muddy parts if the trail when I had to carry my kid. Not so fun for me. it wasnt very scenic here and is next to some very creepy abandoned buildings. It was an ok walk, but I wouldn't come here again.
